Might as well come out,” she said. “I know you’re here.”
Then the cloak fell. A man stood in front of her. Ezekiel stood in front of him with a sharp knife held at his throat. The man was gripping him tightly. Sara quickly spotted one other man with his back turned to the three of them about six rows back.
“Nice trick,” she said. She carefully took in the situation. She wondered if she was dealing with a mage, but she didn’t think so. Her battle instincts told her she was dealing with a normal man. Those instincts were almost never wrong. However, there was something magical about him. Narrowing her eyes, she realized it was the pendant around his neck. It was giving off an aura of old magic. She was impressed.
Haven’t seen one of those before, she thought.

Review Purenet by H.J. Lawson

Purenet is one of six wealthy Sanctions, formed by the Emperor and the Untouchables after a devastating world war.
Only those born in Purenet have the privilege of living under the dome, protecting their bodies from the sun’s deadly UVA rays.

Skylier is desperate to escape her underground confines and save her mother’s life.

Now she is in a race against time to save not only her life, but her mother's and those she cares about. And if she fails, she'll suffer a fate worse than death..."
Amazon **Only .99!

My Review & Thoughts
Cover: I love covers that connect and give a preview of the book! That is what this cover is doing.
Genre(s): Sci Fi, Teens, Young Adult
Blurb:  Yes, that is the premise of this book!
Romance: Zilch...only introduced potentials

This book had me swaying back and forth with the rating. I'm going to give a three because it had it's good, bad, and large potential. Can't forget the cover!

Immediately reading the blurbs, many readers may think 'ahhh another wannabe so and so book...' But I assure you, it's not like other books I have read yet. Yes there were some cliche parts but the Author does have a story but I think struggled to stay on a one concept and complete it. Ever read a story that tried a bit to much? This story had purenets, cave people, grounders, selective, host, sanctions, empire, untouchables, a dragon...No not really a dragon, well maybe not yet. O_O

Purenet is a bit of confusion. There are many sections, leaders from Chancellor down to President,. The language and style of writing bumped heads a bit. The first couple chapters explains Purenet and the surrounding communities and their billets in that life. Where girls can become a host, they give there babies up to Purenet's in exchange for money or relocation. Men can enter a game of sorts (was not explained or even touched on in the book, other than the meeting. So no, there's no games of fight to the death here)
Females may live there until we birth three babies, who are then handed over to the wealthy Purenet families. In return, we get to live in the compound for free.
Skylier happens to be in the lowest with no money, a sister, brother, lost father, and a mother sick from cancer which they think the sun caused. Determined to get her mother medicine she goes through extreme measure making an enemy she doesn't want, the Chancellors son Xavier. Running away, she's accompanied by allies. Lies, secrets, the unknown are revealed in this fast paced book. I was done reading with in a couple hours.
OOoh! Did I forget to mention mind readers!

More confusion...Aspects of the story were not answered enough. I did get the feel of a Sci Fi genre which is what this book strive to be under.

No love interest here! Potential candidates we're introduce but NO romance! There was not one I was like 'OO yes! Pick him!' I was more like...  o_o waiting...waiting...the end. So with that being said Skylier tooted her own horn. Clumsy, not my typical leading chic, but she managed to survive.
I wonder what they are called… I will have to ask… They are roses… rings in my mind. Rian, how do you know that? Who’s Rian? Wait… can you hear my thoughts? What, that’s not Rian in my mind… who is it? Quickly turning around, I see a young guard around my age standing next to me. He looks as confused as I am. Did you just read my mind? Get out of my head, you are not welcome in here! I snap at him. We both jump back in surprise, our eyes locked on to each other in shock. How can we read each other’s thoughts? I’m Dax, I mean you no harm… we have to get back to the group before they notice we are gone. His voice rings softly through my mind like a rhythm that has always been there.
I was excited for Xavier's character! He seem menacing, intriguing, but then he was lost at sight. The author introduces five plus her brother male characters who have rolls in the story. With it being a very short read, I don't think the author gave them all their unique personality to stand out or build emotions with each other or the readers. Maybe in the next one she can extend to go in depth with them or off with their heads!

Why I gave the rating a three than? This book has potential! Lots of room to improve the following book in the series. It's a very quick read that held my attention. I liked some of the ideas the Author came up with. I do think theirs readers that will enjoy it as well. A few minor changes, explaining more of this world, and leave the unnecessary behind.

Huge cliffhanger!

Mini Excerpt
He just smiles back at me. “You, child, are just like your father… always meddling in other people’s business. It's a shame Xander wants you alive, for some unknown reason. I wish I could kill you like I did your father.” My mouth dries up as he speaks. “So, child… who told you about the bio meat?”
I can feel my eyes widen in fear as he moves his body closer to mine. Pulling the remainder of saliva from the back of my throat, I force it forwards and phlegm comes flying out of my mouth and onto his face and glasses. Before I can react, his hand launches across my face, knocking me to the ground. My cheek stings in pain.
His long, awkward body bends over me. “Dear child, it looks like you are hurt,” he says as he pushes his bony finger into the bullet wound in my arm. “Arh… stop!” “Oh, sorry… does it hurt?” President Tyler mocks. “How about this?” He jabs his finger quickly into my open flesh. “Arh... leave me alone!” I scream in agony. “Who are you with? Tell me, and I will stop.” He jabs me once more.
Dax, get out of here. They are coming for you! Go now. I have to tell them you were here. Skylier, wait… no. I cannot. GO!

Review Anyone? by Angela Scott

The end of the world? That’s the stuff of Hollywood blockbusters and deep philosophical exercises in school. No need to sweat it. So when sixteen-year-old Tess’s doomsday-dad builds a bomb shelter in their suburban backyard, everyone thinks he’s gone crazy….

…Until fire rains down from the sky, sinking whole cities into colossal craters and setting much of the world ablaze.

Tess’s dad gives her a few short minutes to gather her emergency bag and her freaked-out kitten, then leads her outside and into the underground shelter. Terrified, the last thing she expects is for him to leave her there all alone, but he has no choice—he must find her missing brother.

Before leaving, he makes Tess promise to keep the hatch door shut, not to open it for anyone but him, and to stay put until he returns.

But he forgot to tell her one thing: What is she supposed to do if he never comes back?

My Review & Thoughts
Cover: It gives the idea of what the book is about. The door reminds me more of a horror book than apocalyptic.
Genre(s): Apocalyptic, Young Adult, Teens
Romance: Not feeling the vibes

This book started off strong for me. It was exciting, new, Tess was comical, and then it went on...and on...
birthday—a gift I remembered being quite pissed about. I’d wanted an American Girl Doll and was given a gun instead.
The blurb sounds action packed right?! No, that's only the first few chapters and the last 18% of the book. We follow little old Tess venturing off into the destroyed world looking for her father. While breaking into Rite Aid, she meets Cole! The LONG journey begins with these two back and forth. A lot of talking between the two, no action, no running scared scenes. Maybe if their romance was sparked or they were running away it would have picked the pace up.

Cole! He had much patience dealing with Tess.
“That’s not nice.” I removed my hand from his arm. “Maybe, but it’s true. I’m doing just fine on my own, and adding a kid and her ‘cat on a string’ doesn’t seem like the best move for me.”
After all, she was only 17 and Cole according to his calculations and what he shared about the 80s, he's somewhere in mid 20 ish. I guess being the only ones out there, can't really be picky! Cole was the comical relief of the story. He made it as entertaining as her can.
He stood and pointed to me. “You’re cute and I’m magnificent, I get that, but even in an apocalyptic situation you can’t let your hormones get the best of you. That would be wrong.”
Yes in deed. Is there 'anyone' out there to save ME before I strangle Tess!

Wake up Tessy! YOU are a lone survivor in the end of the world stuffing your face, excited about a pair of name brand boots, and determined to get your father that left a 'sorry' note! Warning, She is one to get on nerves real quick.

I do like the Authors writing. It was very descriptive in the beginning. I loved the whole idea of the bunker and the apocalyptic. But not much if any action. I don't know if the author was going for more romance building or surviving apocalypse story line.

Cliff hanger in the end. Cole is left in a mystery and I honestly don't know who or what he is. The author leaves many opened questions in end.

Pandora's Update Reads

Pandora's Update
Hey all! Thought I would post an update on my progress of reading and what's to come! I made a list of books below of what I'm currently reading, pending list, and the books I can't wait to have some quite time with! I did leave some books out that I started and had to put down because we weren't seeing eye to eye. I'm not giving up on those stragglers, just a mutual break to gather each others bearing.
Wheh! I didn't notice how many books I have on my platter and I missed a few to list! The good thing is, I find myself to have super powers of reading pretty quick, especially when it's a gripping, mind blowing, I don't care for sleep type of read. I can devour those in a day! Now to the slight bummer. I started school this week and I'm taking five classes, two of them being literature. Plus my growing babygirl and demanding loving husband! But fear not fellow readers, I always find any minute I have to read a chapter or book or two. When the little family stops at the market and I send my husband in to get the list while I whip the ipad out and read. O_o I like to think of it as a ninja status.
Once I finish my list of scheduled tours I will probably pulling back a bit and reading more books that I have sitting in my library. Ah but it's so hard to narrow down on which to read! A few of my reviews are also pending to be edited before I post them. I'm excited for posting 25 reviews in the past few months!

I also started a new section, 'Readers Cup A Read Weekly'! Look ^ above in the navigation for its page! I've been debating to start it with either an easy one or debated topic.

Well, I think that's it folks, (my husbands giving me the evil eye, my cue to sign off)
What are you all reading!?

What I am reading

What I am listing to. This is the first audio book I have read slash listen to. Not to sure where I stand at the moment with the positives of an audio book!

Books I have pending to read for reviews and upcoming book tours!

Review Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas (Memorable Reads)

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.

Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

My Review & Thoughts
5/5 Memorable & Favorite Series
Cover: Badass much?! The original cover for this book was a soft, beautiful girl living in a garden...Beyond glad they switched the cover to fit this AMAZING book!
Genre(s): Fantasy, Romance, Young Adult, Teen
Romance: In the first book, it is building, but I promise it will be one to watch in the ongoing series!
Blurb is spot on description on the book plus some

I was going to review this series one after another but after reading some reviews on 'Throne of Glass', I felt I needed to put my thoughts into it.

Celaena Sardothein (that last name is so fitting) is an assassin. Not just any assassin, but trained by the best, feared by her 'skills', and wanted by many.
Her heart thundered in her chest. “I was born in Terrasen, then I became an assassin, then I went to Endovier, and now I’m here. And that’s it.” Silence fell; then he asked, “Where’d you get that scar on your right hand?” She didn’t need to glance at the jagged line that ran along the top of her hand, just above her wrist. She flexed her fingers. “When I was twelve, Arobynn Hamel decided I wasn’t nearly as skilled at swordplay with my left hand. So he gave me a choice: either he could break my right hand, or I could do it myself.” The phantom memory of the blinding pain lanced through her hand. “That night, I put my hand against a doorframe, and slammed the door shut on it. I split my hand wide open and broke two bones. It took months to heal— months during which I could only use my left hand.” She gave him a vicious smile. “I bet Brullo never did that to you.”
She's been prisoner in Endovier, where slaves are beaten, used, and do not have a longer life span then a couple of days, she lived a year.
“Yes,” she said slowly. “It was.” He gave her a look that asked for more. Well, what did she care if she told him? “When I arrived, they cut my hair, gave me rags, and put a pickax in my hand as if I knew what to do with it. They chained me to the others, and I endured my whippings with the rest of them. But the overseers had been instructed to treat me with extra care, and took the libertyof rubbing salt into my wounds— salt I mined— and whipped me often enough so that some of the gashes never really closed. It was through the kindness ofa few prisoners from Eyllwe that my wounds didn’t become infected. Every night, one of them stayed up the hours it took to clean my back.”
Prince Dorian seeks her out to be his champion in his father's competition. Winner will be the King's champion (will do the dirty work of the king) and receive their freedom after time is served. She has to compete against the filth and deadly of fighters.
“However,” the prince said, “there’s a catch.” She kept her face neutral as he toyed with a ring on his finger. “The position isn’t being offered to you. Yet. My father thought to have a bit of fun. He’s hosting a competition. He invited twenty- three members of his council to each sponsor a would- be Champion to train in the glass castle and ultimately compete in a duel. Were you to win,” he said with a half smile, “you’d officially be Adarlan’s Assassin.” She didn’t return his smile. “Who, exactly, are my competitors?” Seeing her expression, the prince’s grin faded. “Thieves and assassins and warriors from across Erilea.
Celaena accepts the challenge, not that she had many options. This is the point where I think thoughts of the book from others get muddy. Yes Calaena enjoys the finer of the Castle but mind readers, she's coming from crap hole where she had nothing which before she had everything. SO of COURSE a girl will lavish in the jewels and dresses!  But everyone has their own unique opinions.
“Are you mad? I’m an assassin— not some court idiot!” Philippa clucked. “You’re still a woman, and so long as you’re under my charge, you’ll act like one, or Wyrd help me!” Celaena blinked, then slowly said: “You’re awfully bold. I hope you don’t act like this around court ladies.”
Captain Westfall trains Celaena during the competition. Becoming the  King's 'Champion' is not the only worry Celaena has but there's a mystery of unnatural beings, deaths, and questions of loyalty roaming around the glass castle.

What I LOVED about the book!
-Celaena! She is a strong, confident female lead with the skills to show for. She kicks ass when the time is needed. Loving and emotional under the tough persona.
-Dorian! He was comical, fun, and endearing. It made me his own cheerleader for his agenda!
...she pointed to the door. “You may leave now.” “You’re dismissing me ?” He didn’t know whether to laugh or yell. “Shall I summon Chaol to see what he thinks?” She crossed her arms, knowing she had won. Perhaps she’d also realized that there was fun to be had in riling him, too. “Why should I be thrown from your rooms for stating the truth? You just called me little more than a whoremonger.” He hadn’t had this much fun in ages. “Tell me about your life— how you learned to play the pianoforte so masterfully. And what was that piece? It was so sad; were you thinking about a secret lover?” He winked. “I practiced.” She stood, walking toward the door. “And yes,” she snapped, “I was.” “You’re quite prickly tonight,” he said, trailing her. He stopped a foot away, but the space between them felt strangely intimate, especially as he purred, “You’re not nearly as chatty as you were this afternoon.” “I’m not some odd commodity that you can gawk at!” She stepped closer. “I’m not some carnival exhibit, and you won’t use me as part of some unfulfilled desire for adventure and excitement! Which is undoubtedly why you chose me to be your Champion.”
-Captain Chaol Westfall (heart!) #Team Chaol
“Crime isn’t an accomplishment, Sardothien.” “Yes, but becoming the world’s most famous assassin is!” He didn’t respond. “You might ask me how I did it.” “Did what?” he said tightly. “Became so talented and famous so quickly.” “I don’t want to hear about it.” Those weren’t the words she’d wanted to hear. “You’re not very kind,” she said through her teeth. If she were going to get under his skin, she’d have to push a lot harder. “You’re a criminal. I’m Captain of the Royal Guard. I’m not obligated to bestow any kindness or conversation upon you. Be grateful we don’t keep you locked up in the wagon.”
He was definitely not a fan of Celaena at first until he sees under her reputation. There chemistry is built with love and hate, comical as well.

This book is not even justice to the amazing series it is! I find this one, 'Throne of Glass' to be an introduction of what's to come. It is a long read, fast paced and giving a lot of information. Sarah J Maas builds her relationship with each character. There is no 'instant-love' relationships, no quick plot, and it is not solved in this book. Celaena is an assassin but she is not invincible stabbing people left and right. Her character is also just shown a peek of her abilities and identity. Celaena's first fight scene is not till more then half of the book. A slight triangle is brewing! I do think the author played the the love interest right into the story and not forced. One of the men fall for her 'tempting, dangerous assassin exterior' and the other learns to see past the veil for who she is.

Cliffhanger Warning!
This book is a continuing series!
Must Read & Highly Recommended
“You were brought here— all of you were. All the players in the unfinished game. My friends,” he gestured to the dead, “have told me so.”
Excerpt, showing the assassin at her best*
Verin gave her a snakelike smile, and Cain clapped him on the back as he entered the chalk- etched circle, drawing his sword. Nox put a hand on her shoulder, and out of the corner of her eye, she spied Chaol and Dorian watching them closely. She ignored them. It was enough. Enough of the pretending and the meekness. Enough of Cain. Verin raised his sword, shaking his blond curls out of his eyes. “Let’s see what you’ve got.” She stalked toward him, keeping her sword sheathed at her side. Verin’s grin widened as he lifted his blade. He swung, but Celaena struck, ramming her fist into his arm, sending the blade soaring through the air. In the same breath, her palm hit his left arm, knocking it aside, too. As he staggered back, her leg came up, and Verin’s eyes bulged as her foot slammed into his chest. The kick sent him flying, and his body crunched as it hit the floor and slid out of the ring, instantly eliminating him. The hall was utterly silent. “Mock me again,” she spat at Verin, “and I’ll do that with my sword the next time.” She turned from him, and found Brullo’s face slack. “Here’s a lesson for you, Weapons Master,” she said, stalking past him. “Give me real men to fight. Then maybe I’ll bother trying.” She strode away, past the grinning Nox, and stopped before Cain. She stared up at his face— a face that might have been handsome had he not been a bastard— and smiled with sweet venom. “Here I am,” she said, squaring her shoulders. “Just a little lapdog.”
Cain’s black eyes gleamed. “All I hear is yapping.” Her hand itched toward her sword, but she kept it at her side. “Let’s see if you still hear yapping when I win this competition.” Before he could say more, she stalked to the water table. Only Nox dared speak to her after that. Surprisingly, Chaol didn’t reprimand her, either.

Dorian & Celaena excerpt <3
She clutched her belly and bent over. Sometimes she hated being a woman. “It’s Dorian, by the way. Not ‘Your Highness.’ ”
“Very well.” “Say it.” “Say what?” “Say my name. Say, ‘Very well, Dorian.’ ” She rolled her eyes. “If it pleases Your Magnanimous Holiness, I shall call you by your first name.” “ ‘Magnanimous Holiness’? Oh, I like that one.” A ghost of a smile appeared on her face, and Dorian looked down at the book. “This isn’t one of the books that I sent you! I don’t even own books like these!” She laughed weakly and took the tea from the servant as she approached. “Of course you don’t, Dorian . I had the maids send for a copy today.” “ Sunset’s Passions ,” he read, and opened the book to a random page to read aloud. “ ‘His hands gently caressed her ivory, silky br— ’ ” His eyes widened. “By the Wyrd! Do you actually read this rubbish? What happened to Symbols and Power and Eyllwe Customs and Culture ?” She finished her drink, the ginger tea easing her stomach. “You may borrow it when I’m done. If you read it, your literary experience will be complete. And,” she added with a coy smile, “it will give you some creative ideas of things to do with your lady friends.” He hissed through his teeth. “I will not read this.”
She took the book from his hands, leaning back. “Then I suppose you’re just like Chaol.” “Chaol?” he asked, falling into the trap. “You asked Chaol to read this?” “He refused, of course,” she lied. “He said it wasn’t right for him to read this sort of material if I gave it to him.” Dorian snatched the book from her hands. “Give me that, you demon- woman. I’ll not have you matching us against each other.” He glanced once more at the novel, then turned it over, concealing the title. She smiled, and resumed watching the falling snow. It was blisteringly cold now, and even the fire could not warm the blasts of wind that crept through the cracks of her balcony doors. She felt Dorian watching her— and not in the cautious way that Chaol sometimes watched her. Rather, Dorian just seemed to be watching her because he enjoyed watching her. And she enjoyed watching him, too.

<3 Chaol & Celaena  <3
At the sound of his step, she opened an eye. “It’s not morning,” she grumbled, and rolled over.
“I brought you a present.” He felt immensely foolish, and for a moment considered running from her rooms. “A present?” she said more clearly, turning toward him and blinking.
“It’s nothing; they were giving them out at the party. Just give me your hand.” It was a lie— sort of. They had given them to the women of the nobility as favors, and he’d snagged one from the basket as it was passed around. Most of the women would never wear them— they would be tossed aside or given to a favorite servant. “Let me see it.” She lazily extended an arm. He fished in his pockets and pulled out the gift. “Here.” He placed it in her palm.
She examined it, smiling drowsily. “A ring.” She put it on. “How pretty.” It was simple: crafted of silver, its only ornamentation lay in the fingernail- sized amethyst embedded in its center. The surface of the gem was smooth and round, and it gleamed up at the assassin like a purple eye. “Thank you,” she said, her eyelids drooping. “You’re wearing your gown, Celaena.” His blush refused to fade. “I’ll change in a moment.” He knew she wouldn’t. “I just need . . . to rest.” Then she was asleep, a hand upon her breast, the ring hovering over her heart. With a disgruntled sigh, the captain grabbed a blanket from the nearby sofa and tossed it over her. He was half tempted to remove the ring from her finger, but . . . Well, there was something peaceful looking about her. Rubbing his neck, his face still burning, he walked from her rooms, wondering how, exactly, he’d explain this to Dorian tomorrow.

Review Darkness of Light by Stacey Marie Brown

Freak. Witch. Crazy. Schizo.

Ember Brycin has been called them all. She’s always known she’s different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her.

When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for troubled teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who’s hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets. Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is—leading her down a path she never imagined possible.

Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren’t always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she’ll definitely wish she could. (p 298)

My Review & Thoughts
Cover: Beautiful Cover! An attention grabber!
Genre(s): New Adult, Paranormal Romance (16+)

Let me start off with the beautiful cover! It defiantly entices the readers to want to know more. The blurb peeked my interest, a chic two tone eyes, lost, becoming of powers, new world. Yes! I would like to know more. Then came the cliche, Eli (complete d*ck), and the clueless Ember.

Ember is accused of the unnatural causes of her previous school and is sent to a high-school for the troubled. There she meets Eli, more unnatural causes happen. She thinks she's loosing it.

I do like the authors style of writing being comical and the snarky comments by Ember. Some readers may not like or understand her sense of humor and can come off offensive at times. Even after the cliche of high school drama, mean girls, the loner etc. I was still looking forward to Ember's story and her role to her new abilities.
Here comes Eli! The mysterious, biker, just got of jail wrapped up in a jerk that needs to be throat punched!
*spoiler- After he chokes out Ember I was done with Eli and Ember's obsession over his 'bad' vibe.
It was like someone punched my gut. My anger flared quickly to the surface. “Excuse me?” “I don’t think I stuttered.” Eli returned my glare. “I said nothing happened between us, and nothing ever will.”
It went on for quite a while with the bickering of these two that it got to the point of annoyance. PLUS him being a total tool didn't help.
Middle of the book to the end took a fall! I think author lost sight in her character Ember. There's another man in the picture but I really don't remember him other than when he gives warnings. The plot was slow, it also lost focus to Eli's obsession.
I still recommend the book to readers because many of these things are of preference of a reader and it seems to have many fans, maybe it just wasn't for me. Someone may like the guy who ignores, denies, and treats like crap O_O with no explanation till the end of the book somewhere. I do like my male leads 'bad-ass' as well but I think there's a fine line from the two. Maybe Ember and Eli redeem themselves in the next book in the series!

Let's see if the next few quotes remind readers of another story... The minute I was reading this scene another love triangle popped in my mind with another careless female lead.
He had already become a part of me, of my life, and I wanted to be wherever he was. Oh, man, I am so in trouble.
My eyes flicked up to the name of the bar. A small sign blinked, “Mike’s Bar.” It was the place where Eli hung out. Was he in there now? I had no doubt the place was dangerous. It seemed to be drenched in soulless, black shadows, and Eli was a part of it. “Why don’t you come over here? Promise I won’t bite...yet,” the guy flirted. There was a slight southern twang in his voice. I couldn’t seem to help myself. I walked across the road to the sleazy bar. It had this strange pull. Maybe it was the slim, slim chance of seeing Eli, but I knew nothing would stop me from going in, no matter the consequences. That’s when I truly understood my feelings for Eli went beyond infatuation. He had already become a part of me, of my life, and I wanted to be wherever he was. Oh, man, I am so in trouble. “So, sweetheart, you gonna let me buy you a drink?” The man looked me up and down, his light brown eyes gleaming under the blinking neon lights. The power behind them was daunting. His neck was lined with scars, which I was sure had come from a knife fight of some sort. I had no doubt he had seen his fair share of them. The leer in his eyes made me nervous, but I couldn’t seem to walk away. He was a lot younger than I first thought. He was certainly good-looking, but he was a terrifying kind of trouble—bad news all around. Exactly the way I seemed to like them lately. “Sure,” I responded as my brain screamed, No! A crass smile crept across his lips as he winked. “Thought so.” He strutted into the bar, stopping to let me go before him. A very gentlemanly move in such a crass place. Inside was what I pictured a disreputable dive would look like. It was dark and dilapidated with a couple of pool tables in the back, a dartboard on the side, and an old TV flickering in the corner. A heavyset man with a stern face and balding head stood behind the bar wiping glasses. A smoky haze told me they didn’t give a shit about the no-smoking law. The clientele didn’t appear to be fans of any kind of law. A couple of guys in back looked to be part of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang, which should have me walking straight out the door. But I seemed to be on a reckless mission tonight. The rest of the people in the bar were really dodgy characters, ones who had nothing more to lose. It was not a place for a girl to go unless she was as shady and tough as the guys there. No doubt I stood out like a beacon, asking for trouble. Knowing the risk still didn’t make me run for the door. Something kept me in the bar keeping company with a strange man. Was it because I was attracted to danger, or was it because something about this guy reminded me of Eli? I didn’t know, but I couldn’t seem to leave and didn’t want to. This guy made me feel like I could forget all my pain. I was putting myself in a very, very dangerous position, but a part of me liked it. What the hell is wrong with me? “What’s your poison, darlin’?” The guy’s eyes ran over my body again. “Tequila,” I responded.

  About the author:

I grew up daydreaming about fairytales, and my love for discovering new worlds has never died. I am not one of those writers who always knew I would write. I thought that was what other people did until one day, a few years ago, I took a challenge from a friend and typed my first words. My journey has been wonderful, and I cannot imagine a day where I would ever give up writing. My love for reading is what fueled my imagination in the first place and still does. When I am not writing or reading, I enjoy family time with my husband and two children. My family and I live in a quiet community in Northern Utah, and I am so thankful for the rich life I have been blessed with.

Review Bind the Soul (Steel & Stone Series Book 2) By Annete Marie

The most important rule for an Apprentice Consul is simple: Don't get involved with daemons. Well, Piper is planning to break that rule — big time.

After a near-deadly scandal with the Sahar Stone, she has the chance to return to the only life she's ever wanted. All she has to do to keep her Apprenticeship is forget about Ash and Lyre. Ash might be enigmatic and notoriously lethal, and Lyre might be as sinfully irresistible as he is irritating, but they’re not bad for a couple of daemons.

There's just one problem: Ash is missing.

Really, she shouldn't risk her future for him. He lied. He betrayed her. But he also saved her life, damn it. Wherever he is, he's in trouble, and if she doesn't save his sorry butt, who will? But with every dangerous secret she unravels, each one darker than the last, she slips deeper into Ash's world — a world with no escape for either of them

My Review & Thoughts
5/5 Must Highly Recommended series
Cover: One of my favorites and the author kept the same through out the series
Genre(s): Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Post-Apocalyptic, Young Adult, Teen (16+)
Romance: Fizzling ready to explode! Why! I'm going to blame it on 'taking it slow', you know to get to know each other better! Haa
*The blurb does not do justice for what goes on in this book!
"...she slips deeper into Ash's world — a world with no escape for either of them"

I'm ecstatic that I didn't have to wait long to indulge in book two of the 'Steel and Stone' series! Ms Annette Marie delivers another action pack fantasy that would make a reader wanting more! I know I did!
Nothing like attempting to fight your way out of a deadly situation while trying not to flash people. -Piper
Where to begin?! Book two continues where book one left off, Ash disappearing after the Sahar's recovered. Piper makes it a mission to find where Ash has gone with the help of a devil-lish succubus Lyre. Piper gets herself in a jam again, but not just any child plays type of problem. She's a prisoner of Samael, Hades Warlord in the Underworld! Prisoner, she endures much pain and torture for Samael's wishes, control of the Sahar. Piper must choose to either try and save herself from the grasp of the Warlord or attempt to save Ash and herself without getting them both killed.
“Asphodel. The Hades family estate in the Underworld. It’s more of a small town than a single residence. Hundreds of daemons live there, including Ash.”
There's so much more to this book, packed with surprises but just giving a intsy bit away will be a spoiler and ruin the suspense and build up to an amazing read! Middle of the book I did have a moment where I was like wait what...BUT I assure you, everything is answered by the end of the book. 'Bind the Soul' was a bit more complex to read than 'Chase the Dark'. The author added new characters and another world we visit. I wish there was more of a back story to the Underworld...(that may just be me not wanting the story to end! *evil laugh)

I must admit (my head down in shame) Piper. Piper! She did hit a nerve with me in this book. I got frustrated at her at times. I wanted her to jab more throats, take them all down! Then I reminded myself, she is after all only half daemon and doesn't have super powers! That's what makes an author an amazing writer when they evoke emotions and feelings as such in readers. At times she was lost in the havoc and was not her spunky self like in book one. Piper goes through a LOT more problems, destruction, and dilemmas that leaves her spinning bringing her character through much turmoil. That's another reason what I like best about this author. Her characters are not invisible nor can the world be saved or solved over night. Piper's still awesome and does not fail us with her smart ass comebacks!
“He likes lots of other costumes too,” Piper chirped. She flicked her gaze toward Annabelle’s ridiculously low-cut neckline and frowned. “But he’s not into the ‘cheap hooker’ look. Like you said, good thing you’re not sleeping your way up. ‘Down’ is more your direction.”
Ash! What is Ms. Annette building too?? The romance is tethering on the edge. Is it going to happen and she's endlessly teasing us! Not nice, not at all. Just kidding, who am I fooling! I will continue the torture of anticipation of match made in daemon world!
For the briefest moment, his lips hovered over hers, almost touching. Their breaths mingled. Her heart tried to stop. Her fingers twitched. His mouth closed over hers. Heat swept through her. She arched into him. Her hands tightened in his hair, pulling his mouth harder into hers. He responded in kind, pushing her into the floor until all she could feel was him, his heat, his strength. His teeth nipped her lower lip, the gentle bite a dizzying contrast to the aggressive way he pinned her. She pulled on the back of his neck, demanding more. He fit his mouth over hers, his kiss fierce and ruthless. She slid her hands to his shoulders, fingers urgently digging into his flesh.

What I dislike about series...that I have to wait in the suspense on when and what's to come and...oO how I want it NOW bwahh! Book three Yield the Night - Amazon available for pre-order releasing March 27. Not to long for the who am I joking! CAN'T WAIT!

Mini Excerpt
“Look at me.” Her gaze rose to meet his icy stare. “Do you think you’re stronger than me?” he asked softly.
Her brow furrowed. “Obviously not.”
“I cannot keep a secret from Samael. Neither can you. You are not strong enough to survive this world. What Samael does to daemons to make them obedient would kill you.” She balled her hands into fists. It didn’t stop them from shaking. “Whatever he wants to know, he will learn,” Raum said passionlessly. “That is the reality. There will be no rescue. There is no escape. You belong to Samael now.”
She swallowed, her mouth dry as dust. “I don’t want to die.” His expression didn’t soften. “Death is easy. Living is difficult.” He rose to his feet. “Come.” “I—I’m not ready.” “Now.”
