Review Angels Awakening by Akaria Gale (Paranormal Romance, Fantasy, Mystery)

After a disgraceful two thousand year demotion, Charouth is a heartbeat away from regaining her status as one of Heaven's Elite angels. Her final mission: to retrieve five rare artifacts and prevent Satan's escape from Hell. A formidable task that becomes nearly impossible when Azazel, Satan’s top relic hunter and her ex-lover, joins the quest.

Bloody confrontations with the worst the Netherworld has to offer, land her further away from redemption than ever, forced to choose between duty or desire. Two thousand years ago, their passion defied Heaven and Hell. Will love blossom again, or will ancient allegiances tear them apart forever?

My Review:
Genre(s): Paranormal Romance, Fantasy, Mystery
Age: Mature audience, these angels get a bit naughty
Cover: Awesome cover, matches the attitude of Charouth
LOVE the blurb!

Charouth is a Remiel and Archangel assigned to protect earth from demons. She is teamed up with the humans demon watch, including the leader Jack. While on a mission, Charouth runs into a LONG (literally) lost love, Azazel. He was sent to hell, turned fallen and tortured for many years. They both join forces to find the last missing realic that can unleash a horrendous spell! Charouth runs into many obstacles along the way, even the disloyalty of one of her human watchers.

The writing is very detailed, given the reader visuals. The author has a good storyline building with the potential of continuing this into an improving series!

There's a lot of action in this book with many fighting scenes. The beginning of the book was awesome! The middle...I felt a bit lost with the timing, chemistry, and Charouth character. I was not feeling the chemistry level with Charouth and Azazel, I do think that fell short. When the characters were alone, writing in their view it worked but when communicating with each other the feelings didn't show through. I wanted MORE! The timing, is it post apocalyptic? If so they still have access to bell hops and cabs
I do like they have witches, demons, fallen, angels, and more! The ending of the book grabbed my
attention and became more interesting for Charouth's story. I hope in the next book, Azazel and Charouth chemistry builds up!

Recommended read!

PS. Love the authors personality through her profile, "Wonder Woman and all the things that go bump in the night"

Mini Excerpt:

Azazel strolled to the wall of windows. He faced the breathtaking view but saw none of it. “One of these days it’ll happen to you. There will be a female that you can’t get out of your head. She’ll get under your skin. She’ll invade your dreams. She will make you see the world as if for the first time. You’ll do anything to have her. All of your conquests before will seem empty and pointless. Her happiness is your happiness. Her loss, your loss. Your lives will become intertwined and you won’t want to untangle yourself. One day you’ll fall in love.”

Who knew how far gone she was? He had to risk it. He’d try anything for her. He’d told her the truth. She was the only thing that kept him alive in Hell. Deep inside something stirred. His skin itched. The demonic energy inside wanted out. Soon. Usually he hated his demon side’s blood lust but now he found he couldn’t wait to unleash it upon their captors. Their god wouldn’t help them. Azazel smiled in the dark. He and Charouth had problems. Their reunion had dissolved into one clusterfuck after another. Her deceit hurt. It stung to think the woman he loved more than anything would toss him aside for duty, but whatever. They’d salvage this. No way he’d leave her here.

With a hellish shriek Char punched through the witch's ribcage. She grabbed the woman's beating heart and ripped it from her chest, holding it up to the ceiling and screaming an ancient warrior's cry of victory. Azazel charged into the room guns drawn. As her scream died she met his gaze and saw the look of shock, then sadness on his face. He rushed over to her.
