Review: Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers

Book Review
Grave Mercy (His Fair assassin #1) by Robin LaFevers

Rating: 4/5

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?
Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.
Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

My Review:

"Why be the sheep when you can be the wolf?"
Now who wouldn't want to sneak a peek in a book that has that line on the front cover?!

  • Cover: LOVE the cover having the female heroine holding her signature weapon
  • Romance Level: nothing to hide from young readers
  • Genre(s): fantasy, urban fantasy, historical
  • Tags: magic, fighting, female lead, love interest, journey, action

The blurb and cover is defiantly eye catching and was a book on my reading list. Gods, assassins, magic, love, and a female all equal a book I MUST read!
Ismae is not only an assassin BUT sent by death himself AND a 'mother' of poisons. She is faithful to her order sent on a mission but is compromised. By what or who?? You must ready to find out!  Duvall is our hero even though Ismae can take care of her own in this book, so no damsel in distress here. This book does leave off to many openings that will continue in the following books in the series.

There's a few things I wish the book had a bit more of such as more information on Duval! More personality! I must say I did not fall in love with him and liked his merry men more. The writing style is different but push through it. I was also looking forward to Ismae showing her many talents, hopefully they will be in the next book.

I will be reading next book in the series.
